Photography workshop
We will spend five days in the Finnish taiga, where we will have the opportunity to photograph the wildlife that lives in that region.
This project was born from the union of three nature lovers; Iñaki and Dani (nature photographers) and Eneko (founder of Xaraka Natur Bidaiak).
The aim of this trip is to photograph wild brown bears in their natural habitat and, of course, trying to see the so-called photogenic ‘spirit bears’.
Their white colouring is a genetic rarity that occurs in very few brown bears. There is no record of this phenomenon anywhere else in Europe, making these bears unique specimens.
We will go to the Khumo region, a remote and hidden place in the middle of the taiga, where we will photograph bears, wolverines and, if we get lucky, wolves from the safety of strategically placed ‘hides’.
Iñaki and Dani have been travelling to this place since 2014 to try out the ‘hides’ that are distributed in various areas, such as lakes, forests, and meadows, and learn first-hand the movements and habits of these bears in order to perfect this workshop.
The meeting point will be Kajaani Airport, where a local guide will be waiting for you and will take you to the base camp. Once you have settled in, we will begin our adventure, filled with intense photography days

Our photography guides
Iñaki Atxa Aranburu
He has a 22-year-long career in the audiovisual world as a professional camera operator and television editor, and has been working as a professional photographer for about 10 years. Among his work, his short film ‘Hartz eta otsoekin lotan’ won the ‘shorts’ section of the Bilbao Mendifilm Festival in 2018, and his short film ‘Nafarroako oihan hezeak’ won the Espiello International Festival of Ethnographic Documentary in 2022 in the ‘Agora x l'aragon’ section.
Dani Iribarren Elizagoyen
He has had a passion for photography for many years now. The things that he enjoys the most in this art are nature and wildlife. He got into this form of art by doing a basic photography course. His curiosity has led him to continue learning and he has even filmed a documentary called ‘Secretos boreales’
